Since 1945, Moroccan rug specialist Studio Lid has been perpetuating the ancestral art of hand-knotted Moroccan carpets, bridging Berber tradition with contemporary standards. Located in the heart of Sidi Ghanem, Marrakech, we have turned this family passion into a true craft, passed down from generation to generation.
We collaborate with over 200 women weavers from the Berber tribes of the High and Middle Atlas—guardians of a craftsmanship transmitted from mother to daughter for generations. Every Berber rug—whether a Beni Mrirt, Beni Ouarain, Beni M’Guild, or Boujaad—is hand-knotted according to traditional techniques specific to its region of origin, granting each piece a unique character and authentic quality.
THE ORIGINS OF BERBER RUGS
The origins of Berber rugs tell a story: that of the Atlas Mountains, their tribes, and centuries-old craftsmanship. Understanding these origins means understanding what sets a Beni Mrirt rug—renowned for its thick wool and graphic patterns—apart from a vividly colored Boujaad rug or a Touareg mat woven according to Saharan traditions.
